Svetla is a widow who has recently lost her job as a teacher. The village where she lives is close to the border between Bulgaria and Turkey and refugees often appear nearby. One day Svetla comes across a migrant from Africa. This brings about a dramatic turn in her life. She is forced to rebel against the people she has lived with as they urge the black refugee to leave the village immediately.


Ivaylo Hristov is a famous Bulgarian film/theatre actor/film director/professor; winner of many national and international awards. Emigrants (2003, co-dir. Ludmil Todorov) won Golden Rose for Best Film. Steps in the Sand (2010) was the Best Balkan Film at IFF Sofia; Losers (2015) won Golden St. George Prize at IFF Moscow and Golden Rose for Best Film.
